There was a great attendance and some great performances from Nene Valley Raceway 1/8th drivers this weekend at the 2nd round of Nitro X Cross 2023-24 Winter Series at Deerdale Offroad.
Our top driver for the day was Ben Davidson, he qualified 3rd in the A final and had a close finish to end up 4th with him less than a second behind Paul Abbott.
Lee Baldry drove brilliantly all day bumping from the B final (3rd place) to finish 9th in the A final.
Tayler Letchford would finish 4th in the B final
Mark Higgins would finish in 5th behind Tayler.
Mark Wilkins would be running well in the B final but ended up retiring due to a mechanical issue.
Morgan Baldry would be our top junior, he drove amazingly all day, qualifying 5th in the C final and getting the bump into the B!
Tristan Doleman, our other junior driver qualified 8th in the C final and worked his way to finish in 5th position.
Our Club chairman Darren Smith (Digger) qualified 9th in the C final and finished in 7th, but admitted he could have driven better (or words to that effect!)
In the ebuggy George Harrison did a great job to finish 9th overall after qualifying 10th. Paul Drewitt managed to gain a place from his qualifying position going from 13th to 12th.
Well done everyone on a great spread of results.

Today was the 1st Round of the 2023-24 Nene Valley Raceway Winter Series.
We had a small turn out of mainly 1/8th drivers with Stavros driving his large scale vehicle masquerading as an eBuggy!
The track conditions were challenging following the incredibly wet weather we have been seeing. The Nene crew did a great job of removing most of the standing water off the track in the morning, with only a few puddles off the racing line left.
Smooth driving and a good car setup was the name of the game!
There was 1 heat of Nitro and 1 heat of eBuggies, which saw some good battles in the finals.
In the 2x 10 minute ebuggy finals Leigh Bond and Neil Sivins battled closely, with Neil taking the win in the 1st leg and Leigh winning the 2nd leg. Leigh would be the victor overall. Stavros Costas finished 3rd overall in his "LSOR eBuggy" 🤭
In the 20 minute Nitro final Mark Higgins was battling hard with Paul Markham in the increasingly slippery conditions. They traded 1st and 2nd place up until lap 7 with Mark taking the lead. A few laps later Paul would retire with a mechanical gremlin allowing Jamie Bowen to take 2nd place.
Darren Smith and Tristan Doleman (the only Junior racing today) battled for 3rd but Tristan would flame out after a crash, unable to claw back his position. Settling for 4th.
So in the end it was a WRC 1-2-3 Podium today in the Nitro final.
Next on the calendar is our maintenance weekend to further improve and upgrade our facilities on weekend of 11th-12th November.
Some of the Team Nene 1/8th racers will be attending Nitro X Cross Winter Series Round 2 at Deerdale Offroad on Sunday 26th November.
The next Nene Valley Raceway Winter Series round is on Sunday 3rd December.
